The Position

The Studio is a collective of in-house architects responsible for the physical planning, design, and inventory of WS Development’s retail and mixed-use properties. Their work includes initial planning of new projects, architectural visioning, and aesthetic review of tenant design. The Studio is responsible for conceptualizing and creating architectural opportunities for our customers, tenants and communities.

The Design Lead at WS will work on both the strategy and implementation of building beautiful, timeless, and beloved projects. He/she will have the freedom (and obligation) to make design decisions that shape the fabric of the neighborhoods WS projects exist in.  The Design Lead will collaborate with award-winning architects, landscape architects, graphic designers and creative cross functional WS partners to come up with truly extraordinary yet practical ideas that raise the design bar higher and higher with each decision/project.  As the aesthetic decision maker for The Studio and resource for the company, the Design Lead is the “keeper of our design ethos” and expected to stay on the pulse of design/architectural trends.

Responsibilities

Project Design & Resource Selection

-          Work together with Studio Manager and VP, Planning & Design, to make sure projects are designed in a cost effective and pragmatic way while protecting design intent

-          Oversee internal visioning for aesthetics of new buildings and/or projects in advance of selecting outside consultants

-          Together with cross functional team members, drive selection of all external architects and landscape architects

-          Together with Studio teammates, guide external architects through design process

 

 Design Advisory

-          Give answers to internal teams on project design questions such as color schemes, paint, furniture, lighting, flooring, artwork

-          Together with Studio team, approve aesthetic elements of tenant interior plans and tenant signage

-          Responsible for guidance on decoration of any corporate interior spaces (Seaport leasing suite, Palm Beach management office, etc.)

-          Strive for design impact through innovative, thoughtful and functional design

 

Resource Development

-          Create library of design ideas / themes / materials to use at current and future developments

-          In partnership with construction and Studio team, create and update tenant design manuals

-          Develop design skills of Studio

Requirements

-          Proven design talent on high quality projects

-          Highly motivated, strong team building, organizational and communication skills are essential

-          Enjoy working in a collaborative environment and providing design mentorship to others

-          Possess a working knowledge of techniques, products, and materials used in both commercial and residential environments

-          Architectural background a plus
