Fabric Manager Job Description

Norma Kamali Inc is a fast-paced Women’s Contemporary lifestyle Brand based in New York City. Collection encompasses division of RTW, athleisure active, swimwear, coats and handbags. We specialize in knits cut and sew.

We are looking for a dynamic and passionate Fabric Manager


The responsibilities will includesourcing fabric and vendors for development of collections, organize fabric ordering for bulk production to ensure the utmost quality standards are implemented and met with mills. The candidate must demonstrate strong ability to communicate and coordinate with mills, factories and internal team to prevent any fabric issue, solve problems in a timely manner to meet production calendar.


You must be a motivated self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit and driven by successful results. 



Sourcing fabric samples for new collections:

  • Source new fabrics and vendors, including print development, knowledge of and relationships with domestic & international mills
  • Oversee Lab testing of raw materials ensuring compliance with internal procedures established testing policies
  • Order sample yardage and follow up for timely deliveries and development of collection, approval of strike offs and samples
  • Negotiate pricing, maintain master list of fabrics / vendors costs information, minimums purchase, production lead time


Fabric ordering for Seasonal & Core production

  • Establish, confirm and maintain Fabric deliveries calendar for all bulk productions (seasonal & repeat core production), report weekly status
  • Coordinate, follow up & communicate closely with mills to factories to ensure timely deliveries
  • Maintain chart with Seasonal / Core fabric need, receipts, report internally on a weekly basis
  • Gather monthly fabric inventory from factories, report internally
  • Organize sell off for fabric excess
  • Trim knowledge


Quality control

  • Review and confirm company standards by fabric vendor and ensure confirmed protocols are established and effective
  • Check fabric production quality before shipping to factories, review any quality issue with President


Qualified candidates MUST possess the following:

5/7 years experience minimum with increasing responsibilities within Fashion wholesale industry, must be able to troubleshoot production cycle issues


Computer savvy and proficient in excel


Proactive, Extremely organized, Ability to work in fast-paced environment, Sense of urgency, Detail oriented, Self-starter, Flexible to shifting priorities, Willingness to work extra hours to meet deadlines, Participate in all events and activities
