Job Details

The Product Development Associate will work closely with the Product Development Department to develop new yarn and craft tools for one of the largest yarn companies in the U.S.  Individual must have strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills and ability to manage multiple projects and tasks at the same time.

Requirements

Skills:

Strong attention to detail and highly organized.

Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks at the same time.

Ability to prioritize in an environment with shifting deadlines.

Must be able to communicate technical ideas and information in clear and succinct language.

Must be able to work closely with the creative team and company management as well as be self-motivated to accomplish tasks.

Familiarity with Microsoft Excel

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of textiles and/or ability to knit/crochet.

Experience or interest in the hand-knit and crochet industry.

Previous experience in the product development process.

Experience communicating with international suppliers.

Mandarin language skills

  

Requirements and Duties:

Regular email communication with suppliers to monitor the progress of sample development.

Request pricing and other important technical information for evaluation of new yarns.

Send color references to suppliers to request yarn samples in new colors.

Enter pricing information for samples in spreadsheets.

Prepare yarn samples for sales meetings and trade shows; Create color cards, label sample balls and coordinate shipping of materials.

Work with Yarn Development Coordinator to create the spec and sell sheets for potential new yarns for the sales team.

Communicate information about new products to Design and Marketing Departments.

Prepare materials for monthly yarn meetings where potential yarns will be presented and discussed.

Send yarn samples to testing labs for retailer required testing and work to resolve any failed testing reports or quality issues.

Request any knitted samples that need to be made for testing purposes.

Request and ensure timely delivery of samples of new yarns for use in Design and Marketing departments.

Maintain color card inventory in Design department.

Maintain and organize current inventory of samples in development.

Request text that needs to be translated from translation service for labels, patterns or other product packaging.
