Position Description:

The Department of Design seeks an energetic non-tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice to join a dynamic program. The successful applicant will contribute to the university’s mission through teaching and service by serving as a full-time faculty member in the Apparel Design and Manufacturing Program (ADM). The preferred applicant must be an active leader in the profession and have extensive experience in the apparel design and manufacturing industry, and be committed to the highest standards of scholarship and professional activities in support of a campus climate that supports equality and diversity. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a full load of undergraduate courses while promoting undergraduate creative scholarship and competition. The candidate will liaison with the ADM Program Director, the Department of Design Chair, and other faculty teaching in the program. The Department of Design, housed in The College of Human Sciences, serves approximately 300 undergraduate students (Interior Design and Apparel Design and Manufacturing Programs) and 30 graduate students (Interior and Environmental Design Programs). Faculty should engage in service activities with the department, college, university, community, and design profession. We are recruiting top-flight faculty who will provide cutting-edge opportunities for bright students.

Eight strategic research themes, including sustainable society, community health and wellness, computational and theoretical sciences and visualization, and creative capital, have been identified across all colleges, schools, centers and institutes that will directly and clearly guide activities and investment strategies to expand and enhance teaching endeavors, research, and creative scholarship. The Teaching Learning and Professional Development Center offers a variety of excellent services and training for faculty.

Texas Tech University was founded in 1923 and is located in Lubbock, TX, in the heart of the South Plains, and has an enrollment of over 38,000 students, including the undergraduate, law, and medical campuses.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications and Responsibilities:

Four or more years of continuous industry experience, with progressive levels of responsibility in Apparel Design and Manufacturing. Degree in Apparel Design or related field. 
Teaching experience and a master’s degree (MS, MA) or terminal degree (MFA, PhD) is preferred. The successful candidate will be expected to teach flat pattern, digital design, construction, and product development courses; knowledge of textiles and history of apparel design also are important. Applicants must be proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, PLM, Gerber, and 2D/3D CAD (e.g. Gerber and OptiTex). The candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate course levels while providing service to the department, the college, and the University as necessary. This includes serving as faculty advisor to the ADM Hi-Tech Fashion Group student organization. A demonstrated and ongoing commitment to serving diverse student populations is preferred.
