Overview of the Director Jewelry Design 


The Director Product Development must have a unique combination of creative and analytical talents. They must be able to collaborate with marketing and product line management to identify trends and new product line channels, conceptualize/visualize new ideas, direct the artwork and development channels, manage process timelines, interpret analytical data, perform market and financial analysis and assist in the procurement process.

Job Requirements/Responsibilities:

  • Identifies, in conjunction with marketing and product line management, promising areas of research or technology that address unmet needs and have large potential markets for silver products.
  • Communicates to senior management and sales staff the overview of all products under development, and their stage of development.
  • Research and investigate all potential new product development items to ensure that there is no Intellectual Property, Patents, Licenses, or any other regulatory concerns prior to approving the product for implementation to the Silver product line.
  • Plans and formulates aspects of research and development proposals such as objective or purpose of project, applications that can be utilized from findings, costs of project, and equipment.
  • Directs and leads in-house designers and artists in development of all new product and prototypes.
  • Works within approved budgets.
  • Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring projects, such as preparation of records of expenditures and research findings, progress reports, and staff conferences, in order to inform management of current status of each project.
  • Negotiates licensing contracts with consulting firms or contract artists to perform specified duties
  • Tracks industry trends, relevant legislation, and competitor activities.
  • Reads industry publications, attends showings, and consults with engineering, marketing, production and sales representatives to establish design concepts.
  • Manage the product development timeline for Product Acceptance Meetings and In-Line Reviews.
  • Plans and develops test programs/products for prototypes.
  • Coordinates efforts with external design artists and collaborates on new product designs.
  • Travel as required to visit vendors, attend markets, sales meetings, and other innovative shows to generate creative ideas and determine industry trends.
  • Works very closely with managers and staff in the Columbus Manufacturing plant for product design, testing and implementation.
  • Achieves goals and contributes to profit and revenue.
  • 4-8 years experience in Product Development
  • 4-8 years experience and skill in Jewelry and/or gift a major plus
  • Responsible for orderly introduction and exit of successful product line
  • Will lead and coordinate all major business activities related to our product lines
  • Direct and work with Manufacturing to overcome product line obstacles
  • Other duties as assigned

This is a dynamic and integral position to the company and we are looking to fill the position as quickly as possible. The Position must work and live in Montana working out of our Corporate offices in Columbus, MT.

Bachelor's or equivalent Degree preferred with focus on Jewelry Design, trend analysis, and product management; and/or 4-8 years equivalent design experience.


Excellent mathematical and analytical skills

Business Plan Development experience

Product development and sourcing experience; Asia, Mexico

Excellent oral, written communication and presentation skills

Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office and spreadsheet software is mandatory

Ability to understand a complex product line

Participation in Western Lifestyle will be perceived as a major “plus”

Strong organizational skills

Entrepreneurial Spirit


Computer Programs -> Proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Powerpoint, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, and other spreadsheet software applications
