Part-Time Research Specialist and Fashion Show Production

 

Job Summary: 

The Research Specialist is responsible for overseeing Jobs and Internships, Fashion Department Webpage and Instagram updates, research International and Domestic implementation of potential competitions for the students, write grants to companies for scholarship opportunities.  Lead tours of the Fashion department for potential students, provide demonstrations to students working under the direction of mentors specializing in a variety of surface treatments.  Production for Scholarship Benefit Shows, backstage set up and dressers.  This position reports directly to the Assistant Chair of Fashion Design.

 

Responsibilities: 

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

• Jobs and Internships

Research new International and Domestic companies for Internships and job opportunities.

After the Internship event follow up with students as well as companies

Annual planning and execution of Internship Fair work with Career Services on placement and coordination of events

 

• Website update

Keep the Website updated on weekly basis with current photos, video and information on all current events in the Fashion Department

 

• Instagram updates

Update the fashion Department Instagram on a daily basis with current photos and important information

 

• Competitions: Present PowerPoint opportunities

Research and evaluate competitions for our Fashion students.  Follow-up and meet all deadlines required by each competition.  Encourage and promote competitions with students and follow-up on all entries to completion.

 

• Grant writing for Scholarships: Present PowerPoint opportunities

Research and write grants for potential scholarships and donations with corporations and trusts. 

 

• Textile and treatment advisor

Guide students within the individual mentor projects including all forms of printing, embellishments and treatments.  Provide demos in the class room to students on treatments techniques, printing options, source dyes, fabrics and trims.  Research the newest and most current Technology as it relates to fabrics and make presentations.  Accurately order fabrics and trims and distribute to individual students as needed.  Research new companies with new and emerging technology to develop for potential collaborations with the department.  Research the latest printing techniques available.

 

• Scholarship Benefit Show

Inventory control of all final garments submitted for the Fashion show, Jury Show and Special Events. Prior to the show organize and duplicate all illustrations and place them with the individual garments. Organize and train all dressers at the Dresser meetings .  Supervise all dressers for all shows.  Prior to the show set up and organize entire backstage area for multiple shows.

Requirements

Qualifications:

This is a part-time, exempt position reporting to the Assistant Chair of the Fashion Department.  A BFA degree in fashion design and textile is required.  Strong communication skills, strong organizational skills, good writing skills, excellent digital skills- Photoshop-PowerPoint-Excel-Word. Fashion Production knowledge required.  Transportation/car is necessary.
